Real talk, does teeth whitening damage your enamel?

Updated: Apr 3, 2024

Answered by our Dentist Dr. Rashi Gupta

A common question we often receive is: does teeth whitening harm your enamel, the protective outer layer of your teeth? The short answer is no. Teeth whitening, when performed using approved whitening agents like those used at Beambar, does not damage the enamel.

What teeth whitening agents actually do is penetrate the pores of the tooth, temporarily dehydrate it, and then lift stains to the surface. This process enhances the whiteness of the tooth without causing any harm to the enamel.

Great explanation, Dr. Gupta! It’s reassuring to know whitening doesn’t harm enamel. A trusted pediatric dentist in Houston can also guide families on safe dental treatments.
